Darwin’s Atelier proudly presents our newest original hybrid: Pinguicula koehres x laueana, Clone 7.

This stunning Mexican butterwort is a robust and prolific grower that blooms continuously throughout the year. Whether placed on a sunny east- or south-facing windowsill or grown under T5 fluorescent lighting, it thrives with minimal care.

Like most Mexican Pinguicula, this hybrid follows a natural seasonal rhythm of wet and dry periods, mimicking its wild habitat. During the wet season, it produces wide, sticky carnivorous leaves that are highly effective at trapping fungus gnats—common pests for houseplant enthusiasts. If you’re dealing with a gnat problem, simply placing this plant next to the affected pot will quickly turn it into a living trap covered in caught insects.

As the dry season begins, the plant transitions to producing narrower, thicker, non-carnivorous leaves that resemble those of a succulent. During this phase, reduce watering and keep the soil dry.

Despite these seasonal shifts, Pinguicula koehres x laueana, Clone 7 blooms profusely year-round, making it a rewarding addition to any collection.

Plants are shipped bare-root, wrapped in moist paper towel. Upon arrival, remove paper towel and pot in an inorganic medium such as bonsai gravel.
